First Impressions – Van Stadens Resort, Eastern Cape

 

We arrived at Van Stadens Resort on Saturday late morning, following one of the most scenic detours I’ve ever taken—right off the freeway and into a world of ocean views, thick bush, and winding roads that feel like a secret invitation. This place is a hidden gem tucked behind the mountains, safe and green and full of quiet promise.

At the security gate, the gentleman already knew who we were (yes, it’s a quiet weekend, but still—great service is great service). We paid the balance of our stay, everything was explained clearly, and we were off to find our site.

Not ten minutes later, a resort service van pulled up. Two friendly gents hopped out and asked if we needed help setting up. That’s a big WOW in my book—especially considering that it’s usually just us women on the road. My son-in-law was with us this time, but what if he wasn’t? That kind of thoughtful gesture makes all the difference.

We didn’t have the right blue plug adapter. No problem. They radioed the office and within minutes, we were sorted with a loan plug. Easy, efficient, no fuss.

The resort itself is well-kept—lush lawns, a touch of wildness, and ablution blocks that are immaculate. Not modern or fancy, but spotless, functional, and clearly cared for. Bins are emptied regularly, and the cleaning staff are on it like clockwork.

As for things to do—there’s not a long list, and that’s part of the charm. There’s a trampoline, a soccer area, and a play park. Enough to spark imagination in children without overwhelming them with noise and neon. The beach is close and perfect for wide open running, shell hunting, or plain old barefoot wandering.

They’ve got canoes and paddle boats too—good fun and sneaky exercise. And there’s a tiny shop open on weekends and holidays with just enough to cover the forgotten essentials—think shampoo or a dish towel, not swimsuits or sandles.
